Perfect by Pink (originally titled F**kin Perfect) was the second single Pink released off of her Greatest Hits….So Far album. The song is available on the album as well as in sheetmusic.
Pink wrote Perfect as an empowerment anthem to people who feel less than perfect or feel they are always expected to be perfect. Pink herself has a highly publicized history of self-esteem issues as well as drug and alcohol abuse. Now clean and sober, happily married with a new baby Alicia (Pink’s given name) has come out the other side feeling stronger than ever and realizing the opportunity she had to assist others who are dealing with similar situations in their lives.
The lyrics of the song have an angry and slightly sarcastic tone which really conveys a rising up against judgment and criticism for being less than perfect. She also points out that self-loathing and self-criticism can be just as damaging as judgment by others.
The overall message of the song is one of hope. Pink tries to convey the message that if a person strives to love themselves and only attempts to achieve their own personal version of perfection they are free to ignore the judgment and criticism from outsiders and finally be happy.
This song is supported by an extremely graphic and poignant video that features a woman reliving a childhood filled with violence, self-loathing and self-inflicted pain yet brings her full-circle to the present where she is healthy, happy and well-adjusted.
Perfect by Pink peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number two. It is available in sheetmusic for piano, vocal and guitar.
